Joe was born at the Huffman home place - 1st house west of the cemetery, which was built by his great-grandfather, and at the time of Joe’s birth was the home of his grandmother, Effie Roderick.

Joe was first married in 1947 to Shirley Meredith, who was the mother of his children: Caryl, Crystal Ann, and Clifford Leon. They also had a foster daughter, Betty Jean Norregard.

Joe later married Opal Fetters, then was later married to Dorothy Bracewell.

He married Lydia Weaver on Oct 15, 1996 and they had 10 very happy years together until his death in 2007.

Joe attended grade school at Bismarck Elementary School, Grange Hall School, and graduated from 8th grade at Duncan School. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1941.

In his early years he farmed, was a rural mail carrier, worked at the C&EI Railroad, was in the insurance business, did carpenter work, and worked at Danville Metal Stamping Co.

He enjoyed coin collecting and antique cars.
