Daniel P Huffman

Husband of Elizabeth (Switzer) Huffman.  Father of George D. and William.  

This is the first grave in the cemetery.  He was born in Rockingham Co, Virginia.  He and his wife, Elizabeth came to Illinois from Kentucky in 1832 and homesteaded the land, paying $1.25 per acre. 

There were 168 acres in the farm and 27 acres in the "timber farm", located southwest of Bismarck.  He had planned to build their home on this spot, but he died before the home could be built, so he was buried there and a small brick house was built west of what is now the cemetery.  

Later, a large frame house was built and has been passed down through the generations, and is currently owned by Judy and Ron Winkler, being in the family through five generations.  

Daniel and Elizabeth were the parents of 10 sons:
